Ten Major Geographic Qualities
of  Middle America

Middle America is a fragmented realm that consists of all the mainland countries from Mexico to Panama and all the islands of the Caribbean Sea to the east.
Middle America's mainland constitutes a crucial barrier between Atlantic and Pacific waters. In physiographic terms, this is an intercontinental land bridge.
Middle America's tropical location and climates are in important places ameliorated by altitude and its resulting vertical zonation of natural environments.
Middle America is a realm of intense cultural and political fragmentation. The political geography defies unification efforts, and instability is now at an all-time high.
Middle America's cultural geography is complex. African influences dominate the Caribbean, whereas Indian traditions survive on the mainland.
Middle America's historical geography is replete with involvement by its powerful neighbour, the United States.
Underdevelopment is endemic in Middle America. The realm contains the Americas' least developed territories.
In terms of area, population, and economic strength, Mexico dominates the realm.
Out-migration of population for economic and political reasons continues.
The realm (notably Mexico) contains major actual and potential reserves of mineral fuels.
