Reading Logs

While reading you will keep a log of your intellectual journey.  Notice passages you find descriptive, interesting, significant to the development of a character, or important to the advancement of the plot.  Log entries will consist of chapter summaries; your comments on the action, characters, language, themes, etc.; and your personal reactions to the passage.

Log entries should be recorded in a notebook.

You are in charge of your learning. You will decide what to write and in what form, but there are three rules:

1.   Clearly label each entry (chapter and pages).
2. Vary your kinds of entries so you have tried each kind several times.
3. Write after each reading assignment.

Complete a minimum of three of the activities below for each chapter.

1. Summarize the action of the chapter.
2. In one sentence comment on the significance of the action.
3. Write out your questions.  Has anything caused you confusion?  Ask one of the
characters a questionor ask me a question.
4. Quote lines and comment on them.
5. Describe your reaction to an idea, character, or action.
6. Talk about the relationships between characters, quoting words and phrases
as evidence.
7. Go inside a character and, speaking in first person, explain how the
character feels.

Grades will be based on the thoughtfulness of your responses.

Challenge yourself, interact, and enjoy the process.
