On our first day in Setana, the town came out to welcome us.
In June 2004, six adults and twelve students from Hanford, CA visited our sister-city, Setana, Japan.  Setana is a coastal town of 3,000 located on the island of Hokkaido.  We spent five nights in the homes of generous families in Setana, and we all became very attached to our hosts.  While in Setana, we were treated like royalty:  we were taken out on the coast guard boat; bussed around for sightseeing and demonstations; treated to special progrms at the elementary, middle and high schools (those kids at the Babakawa were so cute!); and given many wonderful Japanese snacks and drinks (Oshii!).   Towards the end of our trip, we spent three days in Saporro where our students participaed alongside students and residents of Setana in the Yosakoi Dance Festival.  We all had a blast!
