Post-op Journal 3- Going Home
August 15, 2002

We're almost in Providence.  The last few days in the hospital have been pleasantly uneventful.  Dr. Hargroder upgraded me to a "full liquid" diet.  It's got all the fun of Jello, popsicles, and lemonade without the chicken broth, with the added delight of tomato soup!  :)  I can have cream soups, too, but I wouldn't eat that cream of mushroom soup that they tried to give me for all the tea in China.  The nurses were great, they heard I didn't like it, and got me some tomato soup, ASAP- it was delicious!  But it tasted really really sweet- I guess your taste buds really do change a little bit.  Definitely more palatable.

The pain in my stomach is still there- Dr. Hargroder continues to say it's the muscle bruising, which is reassuring- I was afraid that it might be a hernia or something for awhile, but he said no, it was just a muscle bruise or muscle pull, and it will heal soon.  The Demerol isn't doing much, it takes the edge off, and helps with the achiness.  It also puts me right to sleep which sometimes can be good or bad.  :)  I have my very own bottle of liquid Demerol to take home with me for pain, since I can't take my arthritis meds yet (too big for the pouch, need to talk to my own doc about that) it's helped with the joint pain so far, and I haven't had a migraine since that first day.

Nothing different on the plane seats, but it's been okay.  The airplane personnel have been great, we used my recent surgery status to get us some better seats.  No first class, though (darn!) but they did move us to three-seat rows that were empty so there's plenty of room for Thanasi and me and my pillow, all that stuff.  :) :)

Plane has landed- more later!  :)
