Session Three Activity Four-Social Curriculum
Finding an ideal curriculum may never be possible,
but one can dream of what it would be like to have their own ideal curriculum.
For me, my ideal curriculum is not the one that the school enforces.
My ideal curriculum would be based on the Bible. In a public school,
that is not really possible. At the Fort Worth Can Academy, we believe
that students should learn how to interact in a way that is socially acceptable.
Students are to learn respect, citizenship, honesty, trustworthiness, and
reliability. The school has a class that is totally dedicated to character
development that the students must take to graduate.
Students should learn many forms of social interaction
from the school. A student should learn to interact with peers, with
superiors, parents, and members of the community. There are many social
interactions that occur within the day. Students should learn the appropriate
form of respect to give to each individual situation and how to affectively
communicate feelings, thoughts, and attitudes. In addition, students
ought to learn how to appropriately deal with conflict without getting an
attitude, throwing a fit, or fighting. Many students need to learn
emotional and anger management, as well as a number of sources that may be
used as outlets to deal with a variety of situations. As students
bring their various backgrounds to the classroom, students might learn how
to accept differences.
