Planning plays an essential
role in creating an environment that fosters learning. I, through
the lesson, found areas in which I am deficient in my organization and
lesson planning. My objectives tend to be more flexible and they
need to be more structured. I should identify the learner, the behavior
expected, and the form of evaluation in my objectives. There are
many formats for developing objectives, but the two most significant are
Mager and Gronlund. Mager's format for objectives are the type that
are more structured and I would like to implement in my lesson plans.
Gronlund's format specifies an objective and then lists specific behaviors
expected to obtain the objective.
As a beginning teacher, it was nice to see how
a lesson plan should be set up and all the aspects that should be included.
Teachers that are just starting to teach tend to need more rigid teaching
constructs versus the veteran teacher who has more experience and may be
all right with less details written out. I need a detailed lesson
plan. For me, a lesson plan must have the following:
a) unit title
b) objectives
c) rationale
d) content
e) procedure
f) materials
g) assessments
The assessment needs to line up with the objectives
and actually assess the behavior that is suppose to be obtained through
the content and the procedures in which the content is taught. I
learned how to set up a proper lesson plan and become more efficient in
my planning process.
