Course Policies
Classroom Expectations: All Fort Worth Can Academy Rules will be followed.
1. Talk only at appropriate times using appropriate language.
2. Be in your seat ready to work when class starts.
3. Respect yourselves, teachers/staff, others, and school
property at all times.
4. Turn in your assignments on time.
5. Use the restroom between classes.
6. Put a proper heading on all papers.

Consequences All consequences are subject to change based upon the
severity of the offense.
First offense: Warning
Second offense: One on one warning
Third offense: Detention will be assigned.
Fourth offense: Referral to the office.
5 points will be taken off assignments for a lack of a proper heading.
10 points will be taken off each day and assignment is late. After
the third day an assignment is late it will no longer be accepted.
Attendance Each nine weeks a 90% attendance rule is in affect.
Attendance is also figured into the final grade. Students who are late
to their first period class will be subject to a tardy sweep and will receive
the following classroom penalties:
Tests: 15 points off
Projects: 15 points off
Daily grades: a grade of a zero will be given
Participation grades: a grade of a zero will be given
Supplies Students are expected to bring the appropriate supplies to
class everyday. During orientation a list of supplies that would be
taken up were provided and extra credit will be given for bringing those
supplies. Supplies that are brought have to make it through the whole
year and it is imperative that they are kept in good condition. Students
are allowed to check out supplies from the locked teacher supply cabinet
during class by signing a form at the teacher’s desk. The student who
checked them out will replace supplies misused or not returned.
Pencil Sharpener Students are allowed to sharpen pencils at the beginning
and end of class and as needed throughout the class period, however, students
should not be at the pencil sharpener without permission during instruction.
There should never be more than one person at the pencil sharpener at a time
and students should take no more than two minutes to sharpen a pencil.
Giving out Assignments Upon entering the classroom, there will be an
overhead that has a small one or two question problem for you to answer while
role is being taken. After role has been taken; there will be an assignment
on the board that will be explained five minutes into class. A student
volunteer will assist with any papers that need to be handed back and any
tests or quizzes will be handed back by me personally as the class works
on their assignment.
Turning in Classwork There are eight labeled trays on my teacher desk.
Each class has a tray specific to their class. Please place any work
to be turned in, in the appropriate tray for grading. Any late work
needs to be placed in the late work tray that is also on my desk.
Class Participation Classroom participation is essential and makes
up 10% of the overall grade.
Money for School Activities: Any money collected by the teacher will
be handed over to the administration immediately and all receipts will remain
on file for at least two years for any one who has a question or concern.
Such money, will be collected during homeroom buy the teacher.
Missed exams and assignments: For each day a student is absent the3re is
one day given to turn in any missed assignments and make up any exams.
There is a binder with a make-up sheet placed in it for all students who
miss class for any reason. Check the binder for your sheet in alphabetical
order and under the correct class period divider. (see also consequences
for late work)
Restroom passes Two restroom passes are given per nine weeks.
Student who use all of their passes will not be allowed to use the restroom
or water fountain unless it is an emergency.
Seating arrangements Students are allowed to sit in any of the twenty
student desks provided. The desks should be left empty of trash and
belongings when class is dismissed. Seating arrangements may change
at any time if deemed necessary.
Computers Computers are a privilege and are not to be misused.
Students should not be using e-mail, be in a chat room, play games, or look
at any material that is not content related. The right to use the computers
may be taken away at any time.
Incentives: Students are able to earn prizes by filling up their
individual prize pyramid. The teacher maintains the pyramid and the
level will be adjusted based on positive actions, attitudes and other successes
of the student. Upon completion of the pyramid the student may choose
form the following prizes:
1. free bathroom pass
2. 100 participation grade
3. Drop the lowest daily grade
4. 2 points on the lowest test grade
5. 100 daily grade
Academic Dishonesty: Academic honesty and integrity is expected of
all students. This experience demands a high level of scholarly behavior
and academic honesty on the part of all students. Examples of academic
dishonesty include but are not limited to : (1) turning in work as
original that was used in part or in whole without obtaining the instructors
permission in advance; (2) turning in another person’s work as your own;
(3) copying from professional works without citing them; and (4) any form
of cheating on exams. Violations of academic integrity/ honesty will
result in a zero on the particular assignment.
Cleaning and Dismissal: Students are to keep their area clean at all
times. Five minutes before the bell rings all supplies must be checked
back in with the teacher, books need to be placed on the shelf neatly, the
computers need to be logged out of, and the surrounding areas picked up.
When the bell rings the teacher will dismiss the students when the room is
completely ready for the next class.

Quizzes count as two daily grades.
Projects will be assessed on a number of factors including but not limited
to: neatness, effort, group members’ evaluation, and content.
The tests are graded based on the number of questions answered correct out
of the total number of questions. Tests are a mixture of multiple choice,
matching, fill-in-the-blank, labeling, and short essay.
There will be several assignments throughout the nine weeks and they will
be graded based on the number of questions correct out of the total number
of questions assigned.
