Session Eight Activity Four-Classroom
Myth
Myth: “All my students are angels!”
This myth is a common view that teachers, especially new teachers, use to
convince themselves that the students are not really that bad. Often
before a teacher finds out what the students can do there is an image of
the perfect class. Many teachers still believe that the students
are innocent and are not capable of such awful behavior. Some teachers
state this myth to turn around and get a harsh look at reality. This
reality either makes the teacher leave the profession or it quickly gives
the teacher a ‘tougher skin.’ The reality is that these students require
patience, kindness, organization, consistency, strictness, and a large amount
of energy.
