Salient findings

1.

Management of storage pests in cereal and pulse seeds

June 2005 to Sep 2008

Storage pest management using modified atmospheric storage, low temperature, seed treatment with new insecticides and  botanicals are explored

2.

Evaluation of new insecticide molecules against key pests of cereal, vegetable, fibre and fruit crops

Nov 2000 to May 2005

Imidacloprid 70 WS was found effective as seed treatment agent against Ladies finger. Acetamiprid and Imidacloprid sprays found effective against sucking pests of cotton

3.

Studies on the natural enemies of coconut eriophyid mite (Aceria guerreronis)

June 2000 to May 2002

Two predatory mites were identified to feed on the eriophyid mite but were not efficient in controlling the mite. Neem based formulations were found to give some protection against the mite

4.

Studies on use of botanicals and bio-pesticides against pests of Sorghum

April 1998 to May 2000

Neem oil and neem seed kernel extract were found effective against aphids on sorghum while HaNPV was effective against Helicoverpa armigera

5

Role of honey bee pollination in yield increase of sunflower and gingelly crops

June 1995 to March 1998

Beekeeping increases yield of sunflower upto 22 and 8 percent respectively by aiding in cross pollination
