Stories... Driving in the swamp... So, you know that I was a bartender...so I got off of work after 2:00 am and we usually left time for the roads to clear before heading out ourselves. The road I lived down was three miles of curves then it dead ended at my house. Going home late one night, musta been at least 2:30 or later, I saw the lights of a police car. No place to pull over down that road, so you just gotta stop in a straight stretch, if ya can find one...LOL. So, the cop came up to my car and said "Jerri, that you?" I say "yep. its me". (small town, ya know?) He say "Why you swerving in the road like that?" Then I say "I dodging them little frogs". See it had been raining lightly and the frogs were jumping across the road...and I told him how I just can't stand the sound or feel of hitting one. Even now I shiver writing about it. He busted out laughing and said "As long as I been a cop, I never heard that one! And I thought I had heard em all! Go home and be careful". While I'm at it, I would like to say thank you to the local officers back in the day. They waited around for us girls who had to close up shop alone and saw that they left safely. From the grocery stores to us late at nighters...sometimes, if something was up or fishy, they would even pass by to make sure you were home safe. In the place I live in now, I just don't see that. Maybe it's outta date or something...I wonder if they are still that caring at home? Here I see a girl, alone, late at night, closing up or being left alone, and I think, you know they have to take care of the money! Why are they alone? Why isn't the law sitting in the drive or why aren't there more people around...I am a worry wart, I admit...
