Course Title:        Graphic Programming (5 Credits)

Grade Level:        9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites:       Introduction to Computers or teacher approval

Course Description:

 

This one-semester course designed for students who are interested in using the computer but who do not have a strong mathematics background. Students will create pictures, animation sequences, and web pages using commercial drawing, presentation, photo editing, animation, and web site creation software. Students will also learn to use digital scanning and video peripherals.

 

Student Performance

Objectives for this course:

 

Students will:

 

  1. Distinguish the difference between pixel, vector, video, and animation graphics.
  2. Demonstrate how to calculate the pixel resolution and byte size of graphic image.
  3. Distinguish between varieties of computer file types both in terms of use and the general amount of memory the file will use.

 

  1. Demonstrate use of drawing software to create and edit a graphic file.
  2. Demonstrate use of presentation software to create 2D animations and multimedia presentations.

 

  1. Demonstrate use of photo editor software to edit and apply special effects to graphic images from the Internet, scanner, and digital camera.

 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of common graphic imaging and printing problems and how to solve them.

 

  1. Demonstrate use of 3D animation software to create 3D animated video files.
  2. Demonstrate use of web site creation software to create web pages.
  3. Demonstrate combining graphic, 2D and/or 3D animation, sound and video files into web pages using following good web page design layout practices.

 

  1. Demonstrate combining graphic, 2D and or 3D animation, sound and video files into multimedia presentation using following good presentation design practices.

 

 

Instructional Units

3                      Review use of the computer, operating system, data representation, and using drawing application software to create graphic files.

 

3                      Use of presentation software to create 2D animation and creation of multimedia presentation.

 

3                      Use of photo editor software to apply special effects to graphic files from Internet, drawing program, scanner, and digital video camera. Common imaging and printing problems and their solutions.

 

3                      Use of 3D animation software to create 3D animation and creation of multimedia presentations.

 

4                      Use of the web site creation software to create web pages. Demonstrate combining graphic, 2D and/or 3D animation sound and video films into web page using following good web page design layout practices.

 

2                      Final Project. Demonstrate combining graphic, 2D and or 3D animation, sound and video files into multimedia presentation following good presentation design practices.
