Composition Assignment        A three paragraph essay on a topic from Barbara Kingsolver’s short

                                                            story entitled “Rose-Johnny”

 

Topic:                                      In a three paragraph essay, describe a character from “Rose-Johnny” in

                                                terms of one personality trait he/she possesses and how that trait relates

                                                to something you learn about the character from the story.

 

Directives:                               Choose one of the characters from the short story listed below.

                                                Then take some time to brainstorm personality traits of that                                                             

                                                            character.

                                                Before you decide on your trait, be sure that you will be able to                              

                                                support the traits using examples from the story itself.                     

 

Skill/Concept

   Stressed:                   The ability to describe a character in terms of a personality trait and how                                                   

                                    those traits are shown through something that occurs in the story.

 

Requirements:             1.Original title. The same rule applies as for your proceeding essays. DO                                                    

                                                NOT use the title of the story or the name of the character. Catch                                                   

                                                the reader’s attention & use your imagination.

                                    2. Write a well-developed three paragraph essay describing your chosen                                                     

                                                character in terms of one personality trait.

                                    3. DO NOT USE contractions.

                                    4. DO USE present tense, third person, correct heading, and correct                                                                       

                                                spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and vocabulary.

                                    5. Word process the final copy of your original using the MLA style.

                                    6. Staple double pages together.

                                    7. Double space heading and essay.

                                    8. This is a major composition, it will be conferenced, and it is worth 100
