THE ULTIMATE GIFT LITERARY
MURAL
INTRODUCTION: Now
that we have completed the reading of The Ultimate Gift
we will visually represent the literary elements
found in the novel by
creating a literary
mural.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. You will be divided into 5 groups and as a
group you will
complete a mural sheet using the instructions
for your
group.
2. All mural sheets should be completed creatively and
neatly.
3.
glue, doodles, a creative border etc. should be
included
on all sheets.
4. When completed, the murals will be presented and explained
to the class by each
group.
5. Each sheet should be entitled with the term (s) depicted on
the sheet. Make this title large and easy to
read and see.
Be creative.
Group 1
Title Page .
The Ultimate Gift Literary Mural (title of mural
page). Should include a
picture of the novel book cover, a picture of
the author, and a
short summary of the novel written in 3-5
sentences.
Group 2
Plot.
A statement of the plot of the novel in one,
well-developed sentence. Around
this statement should be a statement of the 3
C’s of the plot. Pictures
should be included on this sheet also depicting
the various events.
Group 3
Characters.
This sheet will be devoted to the characters in the novel. One way to
represent
this idea is to decide on the main protagonist
of the novel and then draw
arrows to the other characters and state what
relationship can be found
between the protagonist and the other
characters. Label all characters
as dynamic or flat and why you see them as
such. Creatively draw each
character.
Group 4
Time/Place Setting-Theme.
Include on this sheet not only what the time and place setting was but
also the importance of these terms in
relationship to the storyline or
plot of the novel. A statement of the general
theme should also be
included here. Drawings and sentences are
necessary.
Group 5
Literary Terms.
Irony, flashback, symbols and foreshadowing. All
of these terms are
represented in some way or another in the novel.
Draw them (or
depict them in some other creative way) and then
explain how they
exemplify the term they denote.
ASSEESSMENT:
1. You will be graded as a group on creativity,
neatness and the actual
visual presentation. You need not be an artist
to do well on this
project though I expect you to draw when
necessary.
2. Before you begin on the mural sheets themselves you might want to
make a rough draft on the paper provided you in
class.
3. Check for good sentence structure where needed and correct
spelling.
Each sheet should be entitled with the term (s) depicted
on the sheet. Make this title large and easy to read and see. Be
creative.
