***INDIVIDUAL
PROJECT FOR JANE EYRE***
Jane
Eyre had quite an interesting journey through life. Her journey became most
interesting while at Thornfield, so her life can be divided into three phases:
Pre-Thornfield: life before arrival at Thornfield (Gateshead & Lowood)
Thornfield: life at Thornfield
Post-Thornfield: life
after leaving Thornfield (Moor House & Ferndean)
In
order to better understand the three phases of Jane’s life, you will do an
individual project on ONE phrase of her life. This project will consist of TWO
parts:
1. A paragraph
explaining who Jane is at that phase and describing at least
two significant characters in her life and
how they affected that phase.
2. A piece of creative
writing to further explain your paragraph. This may take
the form of a poem, song, letter, or scene
from a play.
PARAGRAPH
The
requirements for the paragraph are as follows:
1.
For the phase of Jane’s life that you chose, explain who Jane is. (a young
girl, student, governess, love-
struck, independent, dependent,
etc.)
Also
explain the significance of two characters during that phase. (how do they
affect Jane’s life?
What role do they play
in making Jane who she is? Etc.)
2.
Write a well-developed paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting ideas and a
conclusion.
Use
specific examples to support your topic.
3.
Try not use to be verbs.
4.
Do not use contractions.
5.
Correct heading form.
6.
Write a creative, concise title.
7.
Use spelling, punctuation, grammar and spelling appropriate for an eighth grade
English student.
8.
Word process, double-space your paragraph and save it in your JE folder.
9.
Use present tense, third person objective point of view.
10.
Use a gerund and a participial phrase in your writing. Underline & label
them.
CREATIVE WRITING
This
writing should expand upon your paragraph in a creative way. You choose the
form you want this to take (poem, song, letter, scene from a play). If you have
a different idea from what is listed, ask me.
The
main objective for this piece is to BE CREATIVE AND HAVE
SOME FUN!!!!!!!!!!
Requirements:
1.
Poems and songs must have titles.
2.
Poems should be at least 20 lines long. They do not have to rhyme. Do not write
haikus.
3.
Songs should contain one refrain and at least 2 verses.
4.
Word process your creative writing and
save it in your JE folder.
5.
You may use to be verbs.
6.
Poems and songs may be singled spaced within each line/stanza, but they should
be double-spaced
between stanzas/verses. For a scene
in a play, a speech for a character may be single-spaced,
but double-spaced between
characters. Letters should be double-spaced.
7.
Letters cannot be “Dear Abby” letters. They must be from one character to
another character, or you can
write to a character.

Jane Eyre, as a
young girl, lived with her unloving Aunt Sarah Reed and her irritating
cousin
John at Gateshead Hall both of whom effected her life in a very detrimental
way. Jane had been
orphaned
at an early age and had been adopted by her mother’s brother, John Eyre. After John’s death,
she
was treated despicably by her Aunt Sarah.
She was not allowed to participate in any of the family’s
activities
and was believed to be deceitful and evil by her aunt. Her cousin John treated her no better. He
teased
and aggravated Jane for no other reason than he desired it. He taunted Jane incessantly and
caused
her pain at every turn. He often lied in
order to get Jane in trouble. For the
years that Jane lived at

Joy and Back
There once was a girl named Jane
Whose clothes and face looked plain.
A governess she came to be
Teaching Adele for a small fee
Til a marriage proposal did she gain.
In Thornfield lived a man named Ed
Who looked at Jane and said,
“Will you please marry me
Because your heart holds the key
To happiness in life if we wed.”
Jane looked at Ed to reply
But she blinked and started to sigh.
She loved him greatly
But she doubted lately
If she would pass Miss Blanche right by.
Ed pleaded and begged his Jane
To stop driving him insane.
“Jane, please believe me
When I tell thee
That my life began when you came.”
Jane agreed to be his wife
For she wanted a new life.
She said yes to his proposal
And put herself at his disposal.
But instead of great joy found more strife.
A wife he already had
Who had somehow gone mad.
She lived in a room
And tried to kill her groom
But he still treated he well and not bad.
When Jane found out the news
Her hopes and dreams she did lose.
As the love of her life
Turned up with a wife
And the rules favor one not true’s.
