Review of Gerunds
A gerund is a verb
form ending in –ing used as a noun.
Just like nouns, gerunds can be used as subjects, direct
& indirect objects, objects of prepositions and predicate nominatives.
EXAMPLES: Walking provides excellent exercise. Walking-subject

Besides
sleeping, what else do you like to
do? sleeping-object of the
preposition
An
enjoyable activity is sledding. sledding - predicate nominative

GERUND PHRASES
Review of gerund phrases
A gerund phrase consists of a gerund combined with its
compliments & modifiers, all of which act as a noun.
EXAMPLE:
Looking
at the clock is a bad habit. Gerund-looking;
gerund phrase-Looking at the clock
Entire
phrase acts as the subject of the sentence
