Pumpkin Seed Count 2008
Mrs. Little's Class

Students in Mrs. Little's and Mrs. Hill's 2nd - 5th Grade classes had a blast competing to see who had the closest estimation of the number of seeds in a 2-5 lb. pumpkin. We used ice cube trays to divide the seeds into groups of 10 for easier counting (and help with place value!).

In addition to estimating and counting the seeds in our pumpkins, we also weighed and measured them. Afterwards we wrote about pumpkins using a bank of describing words that we created as a class.

Dragon's Halloween by Dav Pilkey

Mrs. Little's Kindergardeners had holiday fun building a scary jack-o-lantern just like the one Dragon built in Dav Pilkey's story. We worked on positional words and talked about the difference between "small" and "tiny".
