| About Mrs. Akers | ||||||||
| This is my fifth year teaching at Lewis Elementary. I can't believe how fast it has gone by. I've had the privelege of teaching 3rd and 4th grade at Lewis. I taught fourth grade last year, after looping up with my 3rd grade students. I am very glad to be back in third grade, as I just absolutely love this age, grade, and curriculum! Before I came to Lewis, I taught third grade at Sanders Elementary in Austell, GA for two years. Sanders was a great school with outstanding teachers, and I'm proud to say I started my Georgia teaching career there. I also taught third grade for one year in Pennsylvania before we moved down here. As many of you know, I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Go Steelers! I grew up in a suburban town comparable to Acworth. I graduated from Franklin Regional High School in 1993, then went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in teaching. I graduated from IUP with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Educational Psychology. My husband, Jason, and I met during my last year of college and have been together ever since. We are dog people, and just adopted our third dog this past July. We have a beagle named Simon, a basset hound named Nygel, and our newest addition is another beagle named Beatrice. They are all very spoiled and even have their own bedroom. It's pathetic, I know. In December of 2005, I graduated from Kennesaw State University with my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to go back to school while continuing to teach full time. It was a very rewarding experience, but I must say that I am thrilled to be finished! Lastly, and most importantly, I am so thrilled to be your child's teacher this year. I was inspired to be a teacher by my third grade teacher, and I hope to inspire your child to pursue his/her dreams! I am looking forward to working with you this year to ensure that your child is achieving to the best of his/her ability. As always, please feel free to contact me! I appreciate all you do each and every day! Sincerely, Laura Akers |
