| Dear Parents,
Welcome to First Grade! If you dont know me, my name is Mrs. Graham. This is my 28th year teaching at Tatem School, and Im so excited to be back in first grade! I cant wait to get started! First, some housekeeping: Provide your child with a flat, bottom pocket folder. You may want to buy a some extras to keep at home, as they do wear out quickly! Send in an old shirt labeled with a name to use as an art smock. Things do get messy! Art will be on Mondays with Mr. Greenburg. We will have snack each day. Send in something small and nutritious. Of course, we love treats on birthdays! We have two refrigerated water fountains outside our room, so there is no need to send in a drink. Students are to wear sneakers on Mondays and Wednesdays, when we have physical education with Mrs. Groeling. Send in one large box of tissues. I think they eat them. Of course, your child will need regular-sized backpack. The extra-large ones and wheeled ones are unnecessary and take up too much closet space. I will provide crayons, pencils, erasers, a supply box, a Spanish folder, scissors, glue, and a glue stick. Please do not send in any extra of these supplies, or notebooks. One important thing you need to know is that my classroom has no bathroom or sink. This always presents a problem, especially because the little ones are fascinated with the hallway bathrooms. They ask to go (repeatedly) and dont come back! So if you can have them go right before they leave in the morning, that will save us from an extra trip. I will provide wipes for sticky hands as needed. I will also be asking for parent volunteers to come in and help during center time. Ill let you know soon what that schedule will be. I really appreciate any help I can get! If there is anything in the next days that you want to ask me or something you would like me to know about your child, I can be e-mailed (do not share this with the children) at [email protected], as I often check in from home. I also have an Internet connection in the room. However, when September comes, the old note in the folder is the fastest way to contact me first thing in the morning, although I will of course still check my e-mail. Id also like to collect as many parent e-mails as possible in order to send out reminders, bulletins, etc. I look forward to seeing you on the playground the first day of school! Sincerely, Mrs. Graham |
