| Dear Parents and Students, We have finished the first week of school and I think we are off to a great start. I am very excited about this year's class. This week we did a lot of introductory activities so the children could learn about their classmates and start to become a community. They really enjoyed the silly putty experiment. There are always a lot of rules and procedures to get accustomed to at the beginning of the year. To help you understand how our classroom runs, I would like to inform you of a few procedures and routines. HOMEWORK: Each student has a homework assignment book given to them by PACT. We thank PACT for that. Each day I write the assignments on the board and the students write them into their book. Parents, please sign or initial your child's homework book each night. This tells me that you saw the assignments which are due. Even if your child does not finish his/her assignments for some reason, please sign the book. Thank you. Homework is due the following day unless specified otherwise. WEEKLY UPDATE: On Fridays the students will bring home their weekly papers in a large envelope. A weekly update form will be inside attached to their papers from the week. This way you can see how your child is doing on a weekly basis. If you have any comments, feel free to write them on the form. You need to sign the form and have your child return it in the envelope on Monday. You can keep your child's papers. Many parents find it helpful to go through the weekly papers with their child, going over some of the weak areas and praising the strengths. VOCABULARY TESTS: Vocabulary tests will usually be given on Fridays. SNACKS: We have a snack during the morning. Please send in healthy snacks with your child. Examples of healthy snacks are fruit, vegetables, granola bars, yogurt, pudding, crackers and cheese, etc. Examples of non-healthy snacks are cookies, potato chips, candy, Ring-Dings, Twinkies, etc. Non-healthy snacks are fine for desert at lunch time. Research shows that healthy snacks can improve how your child learns. SPECIALISTS SCHEDULE Monday - Library (remember your books) Tuesday - Music (once given out,, remember recorders for the first half of the year) Wednesday - Gym (remember your sneakers) Thursday - Art Friday - Health Thank you if you sent in a box of tissues. I greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to drop me a note or arrange a conference. I look forward to meeting you at open house. Sincerely, Mrs. Sandra Goyette |
