Mrs. Denise Fischer Kindergarten Teacher Kearney Elementary School Phone Welcome to the new school year! I want your child to have a fun and successful year in Kindergarten. Above I have listed the school phone number. Please feel free to contact me if there are situations that need to be discussed. The best times to reach me at school are from 8:00a.m. -8:30a.m. and 3:30p.m. -3:45p.m. I am always willing to schedule a conference at any time! School Hours: School begins promptly at 8:40a.m. and ends at 3:30p.m. Attendance: A successful school experience is the responsibility of the children, the parent and the school. Your child's progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is a key. Transportation If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus or you wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you must send a written note or contact the office at 224-1340. Do not rely on your child to tell us this information, because children often become confused and relay information incorrectly. If no written note or phone call is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation. School Work Please look in your childs backpack each day. We send all school news by way of your child. Be positive and value the work your child has done at school. Your child will have a daily folder to carry back and forth to school in his/her backpack. Full Day Kindergarten Curriculum Our Kindergarten Day includes the following subject areas Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, PE See Blue Spring Kindergarten Handbook for detailed information. Lunch Lunch may be purchased for $1.50 each day. A lunch ticket may be purchased for 10 days ($15.00) or 20 days ($30.00) If a student does not have money or a ticket they will be provided a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk and no charge. Under no circumstances will any student be allowed to go without lunch. If your child will be purchasing lunch each day I strongly suggest buying a lunch ticket. Lunch tickets alleviate the problem of lost lunch money. I will send a note home when your child has used up his/her lunch ticket. Your child may also bring his/her lunch each day. Please label lunch boxes or sacks with your childs name. Thank you. Snacks We will have a small snack each morning. If you can donate crackers or cookies for our snack time it would be greatly appreciated! I will send home requests for snacks throughout the year as needed. Thank you. Rest Time Our class will rest for about 40 minutes each day after lunch. Your child is not required to go to sleep but must rest and relax quietly during this time. Rest time will be decreased gradually throughout the year as needed. Please send a beach towel to be kept at school for your child to rest on. I will send the towels home each Friday or every other Friday to be washed. Kindergarten Supplies/Community Supplies Your child will need the following supplies: 2 pkg. Crayola Washable Markers (classic) 1 box wet wipes 2 Elmers Glue (4 oz) 1 bottle anti-bacterial hand sanitizer Scissors (Fiskars preferred) 4 boxes Crayons (8 regular) 1 pkg. fat dry erase markers Paint Shirt 2 No. 2 Pencils (Plain preferred) Tissues (Boys only) Ziplock bags (Girls only) Birthdays and Treats Simple treats may be sent to school on your childs birthday. Sending a birthday treat is optional. Birthday treats are appreciated but certainly not expected. Monthly Calendar Please watch for a new monthly calendar to come home at the end of each month. This calendar will let you know what day your child will be our Share Leader (Show and Tell and line leader), the skills we will be covering for the month, and special events that will be happening in our classroom and school. Book Orders Your child will have the opportunity to order books for your home library each month. The book orders are from Scholastic Books and will be sent home each month attached to the monthly calendar. Share Leader (Show and Tell) Sharing Time will begin in September. Please watch for the September calendar to come home soon. Your child will have a turn usually one time each month. When your child is the Share Leader, he or she will be my special helper for the day, be our line leader all day and get to bring an item to share with the class. Please help your child find one item to bring for his or her share day. Ideas: a favorite book, stuffed animal, photo, etc. The purpose behind show and tell is to give your child an opportunity to share with others, be the special helper for the day and practice speaking before a small group. NOTE: Due to our limited time in the morning for show and tell I am requesting that we do not have live pets for show and tell at this time. I will let you know if time in our schedule will allow for this at a later date this year. Thank you. Discipline Our classroom rules include: Be kind to others Raise your hand to speak Listen while others are talking Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself Always do your best work I believe in having high expectations of the children to follow classroom rules and to help them understand the reasons behind rules. I want all of the children to have the opportunity to learn and for no student to keep another student from being able to learn. I strive to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for the children in which we work and live as a team family in our classroom. If a child has difficulty following our classroom rules I will try talking with your child first, possibly a time out, and I also have the children draw about the problem on a think sheet. A think sheet serves the purpose of having the child think through their problem. They draw about what the problem was, and then on the flip side, they draw what they will do the next time to avoid the problem. If these methods of correcting the behavior are not successful I have a behavior modification plan in place for children who may need visual reinforcement to help them remember our rules. If for any reason I feel like your child will need a behavior plan I will contact you so that together we can discuss our options. Fighting, disruptive behaviors that keep others from learning or dangerous behaviors require removal of a student from the classroom and must be reported immediately to our Principal, Dr. Paul. I will contact you immediately if a situation occurs in which your child must visit with Dr. Paul. In addition, I will always contact you by phone if there is ever a situation that needs to be discussed. It is important to me that we keep our lines of communication open and work together to meet the needs of your child.
