My ratings system is simple, it is based on a 5 star scale with 5 stars being the best and 0 stars being a horrible album. Here is what each grade roughly means to me
*****: Stupendous. One of my all time favorites and will always remain so.
****1/2: Fantabulous. Also one of my all time favorites, and could be a 5 on any given day
****: Great. An album I am quite fond of.
***1/2: Good but Not Quite Great. I find tons of enjoyment in it but there are one or two things holding it back.
***: Good. A solid album that I don't mind listening to
**1/2: Average. I still enjoy these from time to time but don't rush to listen to them.
**: Slightly Below Average. Some serious problems that hold back what could be an enjoyable listen.
*1/2: Just Above Bad. A few gems littered here and there but marred by inherent flaws.
*: Bad. I'll listen to it rarely, and usually not derive much pleasure from it.
1/2*: So Bad it's good. I know on the inside that it sucks, but for some reason I enjoy them in a self loathing sense.
0*: Horrendous. Usually a purchase I regret, or the album has only one or two decent songs that keeps it in my collection.
