p. 29 CONTRACEPTIVES
DEFINITION: A chemical or device designed to prevent
pregnancy!
The chart on this page shows the use failure rate (UFR) if 100 couples
tried the method listed to prevent having a child.
But most of the ways, require the female to PUT chemicals or devices into her body to prevent a pregnancy
Implant / injection hormone that stops ovulation
Birth control pill hormone but not for smokers as can cause female smoker to
possibly have a STROKE
condom male - worn on penis female – worn in vagina
difficulty comes from not using a condom properly
sponge / diaphragm inserted in vagina – slight risk of infection
foam, film, released into vagina – most are messy
creams, and suppositories
withdrawal sperm are often pre-ejaculated
and even if withdrawn – female can become pregnant as a small amount of fluid escapes from the penis during an
erection
if sperm is deposited near the female’s vulva (labia) , pregnancy will occur since the sperm will find their way into the vagina
no method every year one million teenagers become pregnant
