| Rich began his career at NAVSSES in 1975 in what was then known as the Measurement and Materials Department [now Code 95]. He was a co-op student. After graduation in June 1978, he was promoted to electronics engineer. By May 1989 he had worked his way up to a GM-13 in what is now the Programs and Platforms Department [91]. Two years later he was reassigned within the same department as a supervisory electronics engineer. He returned to the Machinery Information, Sensors and Control Systems Department [95] and was promoted to a GM-14 position in November 1997. |
| Throughout his career, Rich has received much recognition for his contributions. In addition to the Isherwood Award, he has received the Joseph Cacciolo Award. He has also been recognized by the American Society for Naval Engineers. In February 2001, Rich was to receive the Theater Surface Combatants Team Award for Excellence as a part of the NAVSSES Systems Integration Test Team, which provided exceptional support to PEO TSC in the testing and successful integration of new hull, mechanical, and electrical control and monitoring systems aboard DDG 51 Flight IIA ships. This was the second such award he received. Throughout his career, Rich was also recognized with numerous letters of appreciation, specail act awards, and performance awards. |
