Sycamore or Sycamore Maple
 
         
               
                 
 

Tree shape to look for.

  
Leaves have 5 lobes. Leaf stalks may be red or pinkish yellow.
  
                 
   
 
Flowers open in April in hanging spikes 6-12 cm long.
    
       
     
                 
     
Fruit have wings 2.5cm long, which often turn bright red in summer.
    
                 
                       
 
     
 
Sycamore  or
Acer Pseudoplatanus
  1. Found Europe, including Britain and Asia Minor.
  2. Grown as a shelter tree in towns and parks.
  3. Can be  up to 30 metres tall.
  4. Flowers open in April in hanging spikes 6-12 cm long.
  5. Fruit have wings 2.5cm long, which often turn bright red in summer.
  6. Leaves have 5 lobes, but may only have three lobes on some older trees.
