View from the other end
At the far end (top of picture), there is a shallow area to the right which holds Cattails, Japanese Grass and Water Hyacinths which bloom with a beautiful blue spike.  I am using a 210 gallon/hour pump from Beckett with 10 foot of 1/4" hose to circulate the water. I placed the pump in a black planting basket with medium size stones around and over it to keep debris and livestock from fouling the pump. There is no filtration on it except the plastic housing and I have only had to clean it twice since I installed it 2 months ago. At the bottom center of the picture, is the deepest part at just over 24". When the cold weather hits, I plan on dropping as many of the plants into it as will fit. Hopefully, they will not freeze. On both sides of this deeper part, there are shelves placed about 5" below the water level which hold the Swamp Buttercups on the left and the Cameleon Plants and a Cattail on the right.

Well, things change - towards September, I started losing water from the waterfall. So, I purchased a fountain kit. I placed it in the medium deep part - right in the middle. I also had to replace the liner towards the end of August. I had originally purchased a cheap, thin liner. I developed a leak and rather than drain and patch, I opted to replace the liner with a thicker liner which is guaranteed for 10 years. Just a word of advise, it is next to impossible to replace the stones around the edge exactly the same way.

It is now January and the fountain area is the only area that is still not ice-covered. I'm seriously contemplating a pond de-icer.
