CLASSROOM ROUTINE
Mrs. Smith’s Math Class PART 1
1. Always come to class
prepared – have your notebook, pencils, and textbook with you BEFORE entering
class.
CLASSROOM ROUTINE
Mrs. Smith’s Math Class PART 2
Homework
is an integral part of the learning process in Mathematics. It provides you the
opportunity to practice and test your understanding of the concepts covered in
class. You may feel you understand a concept that is presented during the class
or
demonstrated in a group environment, but you can only master it by practice and
independent problem solving. For this reason, homework is assigned each night.
Homework
must be completed the night assigned and will be
collected each day during class. Each assignment must include:
All work must be shown! ALWAYS….
If you are absent the day
the assignment is collected, it is due upon your return to school. Full credit
will not be given for late work. You
may get your assignments from the student page at
www.geocities.com/mrs_smith_hoover
You must know and comply with all rules governing homework, dress code and
conduct as outlined in the school handbook located in your student planner.
CLASSROOM
ROUTINE
Mrs. Smith’s Math Class PART 3
You are expected
to be working when the tardy bell rings.
If you are not in
your seat working you are tardy. I take very careful
notes regarding absences and tardies. ON the third unexcused tardy a student
will receive a detention and notification will be sent to your parents. There
is a detention for each additional tardy after that. We will follow district
guidelines regarding tardies and absences.
I expect students to work
until the bell at the end of the period. If you pack up before the bell, I will mark your
grade down for the day. The only difference between packing up early and
showing up tardy is timing. Both are a
waste of your class time and disrupt others.
Each of you will
produce your own Personal Learning
Journal. This will be submitted at the end of each quarter and assembled
into a book at the end of the year. You
will keep examples of problems, vocabulary, projects and other data in your
Personal Learning Journal. When a
student asks a question it is the responsibility of each student to copy both
the question and the answer into their Personal Learning Journal (PLJ). We will use Cornell Note Taking Techniques
to record information in the PLJ.
After the short
activity and review of homework, I will
begin teaching the lesson. While we are doing the lesson you are expected to do
three things:
(1)
PAY ATTENTION
(2)Copy
any examples into your PLJ
(3)
DO NOT TALK unless you are called upon by the instructor
CLASSROOM ROUTINE
Mrs. Smith’s Math Class PART 4
I expect each
student to show up on time
Do not talk in
class unless I call on you or we are working in groups.
Do not eat or
drink in class. The only exception is water.
Bring your work (completed)
to class every day.
Bring paper and
pencils to class every day.
Don’t make
excuses – have sincerity of effort -
make each day count.
Your grade is
based on five different marks. You will receive a homework grade based on the
completeness of your work, a quiz average based on your quiz scores, a test
average based on your test scores, project average grade, and a
behavior/participation grade. The approximate break down is as follows:
10% of your grade
is based on your in-class behavior / participation.
10% of your grade
is based on your homework average.
20% of your grade
is your quiz average.
20% of your grade
is your project average score.
40% of your grade
is your test average.
At any time
during the semester, you are free to see your grade via the internet and Power
School. Your grade will be up to date
and accurate …… UNLESS you are missing a quiz, test or a substantial amount of
homework assignments. If you want an accurate approximation of your grade, turn
in all your work. Also, do not EVER ask, "What will my grade be if I get
...?" Just do the best you can at all times.
Regarding extra –
credit…… you will not be allowed ANY
extra credit unless you have already done all the assigned work. Extra credit is for those students who wish
to improve their score with more practice.

Most decimals
will be rounded accordingly. I do, however, reserve the right to do so at my
discretion. However, I will never round UP to a 60%. A student must have at
least a 60% to pass, 59.9% is unacceptable.
