To Abba

Father, I cannot question Your will.

But my heart is captured in rapturous delight

By whimsies and fantasies

That you blow away with steady reality

As if to say, "You only need me."

A home, a heart, a song—all

Gifts from You which at one time

Or another will be parted from me.

Why can I not keep youth forever?

Or skills so long practiced yet someday lost?

Where is the satisfaction of seeing the end of a day?

Yet in this loss I say, "I only need You."

Then finally I’ll see it’s true.

The song, the phrase, "I only need You."

You are my beauty; You are my health.

You are my fortune—all of my wealth.

Nothing is hidden; You are the way.

All that I need tomorrow and today.
