There were two times in my life

When the phone rang and your voice

Was connected on the other end.

Once you left a message on my

Machine. I played it three times.

I heard you were in town, and

I waited. I waited 'til eternity

Came to a close and still no

Call, no ring from the telephone.

My head knew you would not call.

My heart waited despite all the

Signs that you are not interested.

Call, call, call!

It's too late; he won't!

Now I know why

Some live without a telephone.

Moral:

The hope of a call

Must fall to the weight

Of reality.
