Strangers

by K. Leigh

The cute girl with the short blonde hair

That handsome man so debonair

The unknown janitor of early mornings

The equidistant co-employees filling

Their coffee cups in silence.

What have they in common with

The faces that parade every day

Into our consciousness?

Mother, father, sister, brother

President, schoolteacher, car unlocker,

Do you know them?

The hope of future human relations,

Unending stream of communication,

Rests in their hands.

And hopes of escaping,

Soul sick into the world,

Leave one feeling close to a stranger.
