A Sonnet
By KD
Lord, we are weak and weary, without rest
Lost men hate us, for we cling fast to you
They mock us because deep in their breasts
They know that life is empty without you
Our joy stands as witness to remind them
That this world miserly guards its pleasures
Which their deaths forever lock behind them
While our deaths bear us heavenly treasures
Lord, keep us from those who would savage us
So that our candle may burn, however brief
Let only our charity avenge us
Until your kingdom returns like a thief
Lord, let us praise you with speech and song
For we who were weak, you now have made strong.
