Remember that dream you had last week?  The one where the monster chased you out of your room.  Get out your markers and draw that monster! 

Then, use your writing skills to create the best description you can of it.  When you're done, upload it to the Monster Exchange.  Sit back while someone else tries to draw your monster from your description.  Well.... was your description good enough?
Mind's Eye Monsters
The student will write a description of their original monster using:
           the steps of the writing
           process.
           correct spelling,
           grammar and
           punctuation.
The student will evaluate anohter student's monster description for clarity and completeness.

Project Extension:
The student will include the description of their monster in a narrative story.
Arizona State Language Arts Standards:

W-F1 Use the writing process, including generating topics, drafting, revising ideas and editiong, to complete effectively a variety of writing tasks.

W-E1 Use correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and usage, along with varied sentence structure and paragraph organization, to complete effectively a variety of writing tasks.

W-E2 Write a personal experience narrative or creative story that includes a plot and shows the reader what happens through well-developed characters, setting, dialog, and themes and uses figurative language, descriptive words and phrases.

R-E5 Evaluate an instructional manual such as assembly directions or user's guide for clarity and completeness.

How this Project Meets National Standards
As with any project that uses technology, problems may arise:
     If you don't have acess to the interent or your access is limited,
     you can do this project offline, sharing descriptions with other
     classes.
     If you don't have enough computers for everyone in your class,
     you can rotate groups through a computer center in your room
     throughout the project.
