Here is an example of how to solve a "literal equation"!

Y=Mx+B
Y-B/M=Mx/M
Y-B/M=X
*Solving for X*
First: Subtract B from both sides
  Second: Divide by M by both sides

Here is an example of how to solve a "linear equations"

3(X+2)=-5-2(X-3)
3X+6=-5-2X+6
3X+6=-2X+1
5X+6=1
5X=-5
X=-1
*solving for X*
Frist:  Do the distributive property to get rid of the parenthesis
(Mulitpying the 3 by X and 2 AND -2 by X and -3)
Second: Take -5 and add 6 to combine like terms
Third: Add 2X to the 3X and to cancel out the -2X
Fourth: Subract 6 by both sides
Fifth: Divide the 5X by 5 and the -5

4X-13=35
4X=48
X=12

 First: Add 13 to both sides
Second: Divide 4 by both sides
