 4x-6=x+9  solve for x.
  +6  =  +6   add 6 to
                     both sides.
   4x=x+15
  -x  =  -x      subtract x
                      from both
                      sides.
   3x=15
    3 = 3        divide by
                     3 on both
                     sides.
    x = 5

      y =mx+b  solve for x
   -b = -b       subtract b
                      from
                      both
                      sides.
  y-b=mx
   m = m       divide by
                     m on both
                     sides.
  y-b=x
   m
Give an equation for the line with the slope of 3, and the point (2,9), in point slope form.

y-9=3(x-2)           lets take it piece by piece.

y-9                        take the y, or the 2nd
                             number in the point, write
                             y and then the opposite
                             of the number (if - write
                              + if + write -)

y-9=3                   write the slope after the =

y-9=3(x-2)           do the same as with the y
                              except with the x, or 1st
                              number in the point, then put
                              in (    ).
