Audrey's Algebra Explanations

-6x+9=4(5-x)   1. multiply the 4 by all of the numbers in
-6x+9=20-4x   the paranthesis to get the 20-4x.
      -9= -9       2. subtract the nine from both sides.
-6x=11-4x
+4x=   +4x     3. add the 4x from both sides
-2x=11          4. now the 'x' is on one side and the 11 is
                         on the opposite side of the equal sign.
-2x=11         5. divide both sides by -2 to cancel out the 2
-2 = -2              and leave the x by itself.
x= -5.5         6. after you have divided by -2 to both sides
                        you will get the answer in x= -5.5 form
A=1/2(b1+b2)h    1.)  I am trying find out what b1 equals
2A=(b1+b2)h       2.) multiply both sides by 2
2A/h=(b1+b2)      3.) divide both sides by h
2A/h-b2=b1           4.) subtract b2 from both sides
with slope = -2    through (4,6)
y-6= -2(x-4)         1.) to put this in point slope form change the
                                 put the y and x with their appropriate
                                points, and put the slope in front of the x
y-6= -2x+8          2.) now i am going to change this equation to
                                  slope intercept form to this i must first
                                distribute the -2 appropriatley
+6   +6                 3.) next i must cancel out the 6 behind the y
y= -2x+14          <-----   slope intercept
                             4.) i am now going to change this to standard
                                  form to do this i must first get both the x
                                   and the y on both sides of the equal sign
2x+y=14               5.) to do this just add the -2x to both sides
                                   know have both the variables on the
                                   same side.

you are now finished :)
