Christina's Algebra 2 Page

 1.In the process of learning Algebra 2, you must understand how to solve many diferent types of equations. This is an example of a linear equation.
 Ex. 7x-10 = 6 (11-2x)
7x-10 = 66-12x
+12x       +12x
 19x = 76
 19   19
x = 4
 2. The next equation is an example of a literal equation. Literal equations are only formulas, like the one's you used in geometry. They also involve several formula's. In order to solve these types of equations you must use the value of equality. It is performed the same way as a linear equation, yet without the numbers.           Ex. Solve I = Prt for r.
       I = Prt
       I = Prt
       Pt   Pt
                To solve the equation divide both sides by Pt.
      I = r
     Pt
 3. Now since we have learned how to solve linear and literal equations, we will learn how to solve the equation from the line. You can do this with the given substitutions.  Ex. You're given the slope ( 3 ) and the line will go through the points ( 2,9 ).

           In order to solve this you must use a formula to solve these types of problems.
      ( Follow the equation and it's format )
                   Y = mx = b
       9 = 3( 2 ) + b

       9 = 6 = b
     subtract 6 from both sides
       b = 3
 Now that you have accomplished this task use the given the format.
     ( Y = mx + b )
       Y = 3x + 3.
