 -first isolate the x
 -next subtract y from both sides
 -then divide by m
 -and then divide everything by x leaving
       y-b=m

4y = 2(y-5)-2
4y = 2y-10-2
4y = 2y -12  
-2y = -2y         
2y = -12       
2  =  2        
y = -6       
  -this is a regular equation
-get rid of the parentheses by multiplying by 2
 -next do the math that is able to be done such as
    -10 - 2 which equalls -12
 -then subtract 2y from both sides leaving 2y
 -then divide both sides by 2 leaving 
           y = -6
