Kevo’sEquations

Hello, and welcome to Kevo’s equations. Here you will learn to accurately solve for one variable, solve literal equations, and how to write an equation from a given point on a line and it’s slope.

Good Luck!

This is how to start out solving equations.

-5x = 10-15
Since the equation has like terms subtract 15 from 10
-5x = -5
Then you have –5x = -5
-5x = -5

-5      -5

To get x by itself divide both sides of the equation by -5
x = 1
Thus the answer x = 1

Congratulations,

The wise man is very proud of you!!!

 Let’s try another one!

 7x+7 = 2(x+1)  Use the distributive property on the right side of the problem
 7x+7 = 2x+2  Now you have an equation to work with!
 7x+7= 2x+2
-2x      -2x
 Now, subtract 2x from both sides.
 5x+7 = 2  Now get x by itself.
5x+7 = 2
     -7   -7
Now subtract 7 from both sides of the equation.
5x = -5 Now you know what to do!!!
5x = -5
5       5
Use division to get x by itself
x = -1 You finished the problem!!!

Warp speed ahead to the next problem!

  Let’s try doing a literal equation!

E = mc² Solve for c (speed of light)
E =

m     m

Now divide both sides by m!
E =

m

Now try to get c by itself.
sqrt E = sqrt c²

       m

Take the square root of both sides to get c by itself.
c = sqrt E

             m

Great Job !!!

Let’s HOP on over to the next problem!

Now give an equation for the line. Put in Slope-Intercept form.

Hint (mx+b)

With slope = 3 through point (2, 9)
You already have the slope and all you have to find is the y-intercept.
y-intercept (0, 3)
Find the y-intercept
y = 3x+3
Now just plug in the slope and the y-intercept in the equation, and you are done.

You did very well!!

Smile!!!
