Chase's Algebra 2 Tips

Equation's for a line (in slope intercept form)
The line is containing the points (-3,-5) and the origin.
(-3 - 0)  This is X1  -  X2
(-5 - 0)  This is Y-  Y2
-5
-3          This is your slope.
Y = -5/-3 (x) + b.
-5 = -5/-3 (-3) + b.
-5 = -5 + b (-5 is the product of -5/-3 and -3)
0 = b ( Add the like terms 5 + -5 which is 0)
The Y - intercept is 0.
The equation in slope intercept form is y = -5/-3 (x) + b.
The equation is now solved.

The first step in converting this equation into a line is to find the slope.  The slope can be found by subtracting your 2nd x minus the 1st x.  You would to the same for the Y's.
Take the difference of the Y's and the X's.  Divide the Y's by the X's.
Your slope is your Y's divided by X's.
To put this equation in slope-intercept form.
The slope intercept form. y = slope (x) + B(Y-intercept)
You plug your numbers into the equation and solve it.  You put your x point in for the x (-3) and the y(-5) for the y.
Solve the equation.

Solving Equations
13 + ( 8 + y )11 = 35
13 + 88 + 11y = 35
101 + 11y = 35
101-101 + 11y = 35 - 101 Subtract the 101 to get the like terms and the variable on opposite sides of the eqquation.
11y = -66
11y/11 = -66/11 Divide by the amount of your variable to slim it down into one of your variable.
y = -6

The first step to soving this equation is to multiply the numbers in the parentheses by 11.
Then you add the like terms on each side of the equals sign
The next step is to get the variable (y) on one side of the equation and the regular numbers on the other side.
Now by dividing or multiplying by the amount of the variable to get the variable by itself you can solve the equation.

The Area of a trapezoid. Solving for b1
A = (1/2)(b1+ b 2)h
Multiply everything by 2
2A = (b1+b2)h
Divide by h
2A = (b1+ b2)
      H
2a = b1 = b2 - b1
H
2A - b1= b2
H
To sove this equation for b2 your first step is to multiply everything by 2 to get rid of the 1/2.  Then the next step would be to get rid of the h.  To get rid of the h you must divide by it.  Then it is time for the final step.  Which is getting the the b2 by itself.  Then the equation is solved.
