Solving Linear Equations

13+(8+y)11 = 35
13+88+11y  = 35 Using the distributive property, we multiply 11 times 8 and y.
101+11y      = 35 By adding 13 and 88 (combining like terms) we get 101.
       11y      =-66 By using the addition property of equality, we subtracted 101 from both sides
           y     =  -6  By using the division property of equality, we divide both sides by 11.
            y = -6
  is your final answer!!!

Solving Literal Equations

(dp)/p=kdb Solve for b.
dp=kdbp
Using the multiplication property of equality, we multiply both sides times p.
(dp)/kdp=b
Using the division property of equality, we divide both sides by kdp.
This is your answer!!!!!
You did it!!!!
And now for a......

Basic Equation

Given: a line through points (1,4) (4,13) Give an equation for the line in point slope form, slope intercept form and standard form.
(13-4)
(4-1)
To get to point slope form, we need to know the slope first.
Your answer is just a couple steps away!!
9                            1
which is equivalent to 3
This is the slope.
y-4=1/3(x-1)
To put into point slope form ((y2-y1) = m(x2-x1)), place one of the points coordinates in the x1 and y1 places, and the slope in the m place.
Done!!!
Now,...
lets put this in slope intercept form
Since we already have an equation, we just have to manipulate it into this form (y = mx+b).
y-4=1/3x-1/3
First we use the distributive property.
y=1/3x+3 2/3
Then we use the addition property of equality.
This is point slope form
Just when you thought you were done...
We're going to put it in standard form.
3y=x+2
First let's use the multiplication property of equality, and multiply by 3.
3y-x=2
Now the subtraction property of equality when we subtract x.
x-3y=-2
Because they have to be in alphabetical order, we will multiply both sides by -1.
We're done!!!
