Documentary Treatment

Provisional title: God V Darwin

Resume

The origin of life is an age-old question, which has plagued mankind seemingly since the birth of its existence. Over thousands of years only two theories have evolved to be the main contenders in peoples minds. The ancient creation theory is still very much in evidence despite the newer evolutionary challenger, the brainchild of Charles Darwin. This short film will present both arguments, ultimately leaving the viewer to decide.

Content

This 15-minute documentary aims to outline both main arguments and compare the evidence for the account of creation in Genesis to the evolutionary theory. Evenly balancing up summaries of the main evidence for each theory and letting each side speak for itself.

Then the problems with each theory will be discussed. - giving each side the chance to attack the other theory and explain the faults with both sides of the debate.

The final element of the programme will take the form of a debate between the two lead figures of the opposing schools of thought, Professor Richard Dawkins and a man of God I propose will be Billy Graham from the bible belt of middle America.

The programme sequences will be linked naturally as possible with items blending together with graphic and natural matches. In other parts a presenter will be used to string the narrative together. The presenter will be Philliper Forrester who has a scientific, yet objective viewpoint on the issue. The choice of presenter will also balance out the male dominance of the other main people.

There will also be slightly humorous elements to the programme to interest and entertain the audience n the earlier stages. Just a smudge of humour and not the basis of the canvas. I propose the two key books (origins of species and the bible) to be having a boxing match. The crowning debate between Dawkins and Graham will be staged in a boxing setting with the presenter acting as a referee.

Style

The programme will start off with slick graphics to draw the audience in and introduce the topic in an interesting way. The second stage will be the weighing up of the evidence, again presented in an imaginative way but the style will not overtake the content in terms of importance.

Audience

Aimed at a 16-24 year old audience, I intend a snappy  yet informative documentary to capture this market.
