Current Political State- Right now there are Protestants and Catholics living in Ireland. Two thirds of the people are protestant and the other third are Catholic. The northern part of Ireland is English (rich farmland) and the southern half is a Free State 9 rough terrain). Extremists- The IRA ( Irish Republican Army) and the Orange Order are two groups that get a laugh out of blowing each other up. The Orange Order is against the Catholics and the IRA is blowing up Ireland every day trying to get it back. Reunification- the IRA does want Ireland back but the Orange Order does not want to give it back. Pacific Rim/ Trade: History- 1945-1964 United States dominated trade over other countries that were decimated form WWII. Then John F. Kennedy decided to aid Japan in 1961 and in 1965 Japan is selling more goods to the US than the US to Japan Trade Balance- The advantage is on Japan�s side and will be for a while because we need their products and they need our money. National Debt: National Debt vs. Deficit- Our National Debt is rising at 23,000,000 dollars every hour and because of that tax payers are paying over 40% of the money they make to taxes while in the WWII generation 6% of the money earned by one person would go to taxes. Magnitude of National Debt- Sooner or later little personal accessories will be taken away from us, our children or our grand children. It is going to happen with the debt rising at the pace it is rising at. Taxes in about 10 years could be around 60% which is astonishing. Debt= new form of slavery Effect on Future- The future children won�t be able to live the life that their parent, or grandparent used to live, it�s not possible with about 60% of the money their parents are making is going to taxes. AIDS: Basic facts from handout- AIDS = acquired immune deficiency syndrome and originated in Zaire, Africa in 1976 (first documented). There were 136,000 cases of aids dating back 5 years ago. Every ten minutes someone is getting aids. Treatment and Research- AZT is a drug that helps prevent HIV become full blown aids, it is very expensive, the most notable person to take the drug is Magic Johnson. History- The first documented case of AIDS was a Danish doctor in Zaire, Africa in 1976. No body new of it until Rock Hudson which is equivalent to Brad Pitt today. About ten years ago men were more susceptible but women have caught up lately to the men. Causes and Prevention- AIDS are known to be transmitted through a dirty needle or sexual intercourse and other ways. Doctors haven�t created a drug that can stop AIDS from killing the immune system so that a common cold kills a person but AZT has been made to expand ones life.
