It is true that democracy is inefficient but it is better than any other option we (United States) have as the prompt said because all you have to do is imagine our country under the rule of one ruler who has inherited his position not because of intellectual superiority or any other reason but yet because he was born into the a family of rulers. In this government the people have no voice in any of the decisions that take place and this form of government is called a monarchy. Or you can imagine yourself in the position of a Cuban being ruled by Fidel Castro or an Iraqi before Sadaam Hussein was captured both countries in which the leader took power by force and the people have very little to no say in the government activities. The type of government I was just talking about was a dictatorship, I already talked about a monarchy, and if I could type more than 300 words I would talk about other types of government and how democracy is so superior to the other types of government but yet we (United States citizens) take it for granted. We take for granted that we have the option to voice our opinion about almost any activity that we have a problem with through television, newspaper and the internet. We take for granted that we get to choose our leader and laws that will affect our lives through voting (unbelievable that 99% of the people dont take 5 minutes of their life to vote on things that will affect years of their life). Instead of looking at all the great options we have, compared to other countries, we look at the bad aspects of democracy such as the candidates that wins the popular vote dont always win the election for example Gore vs. Bush and in a democracy the decision making can be delayed sometimes because of everyone being able to voice their opinions.
