| Journal Entry- Pretend you are president Truman and you are writing your autobiography. You have just come to the chapter on the decision to drop the atomic bomb. Describe how difficult it was (cons) but also defend your decision (the pros). It was very hard for me to come to the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because dropping the atomic bomb means that many people die, I love every one no matter what color or race they are, and many inoccent civilians would die also. Radiation would also be lurking around the area too whcih sadenned me because future generations who ahd nothing to do with the war would be affected by my decision. But I chose to drop the bomb because I felt that we as Americans and the Japanese people would have lost ten times more people than we did during the war if we were to continue fighting aginst each other. I believe the war would ahve lasted two or three more years which would have been devastating not just for Japan and America but for the whole world. The Japanese are very strong willed people and I believe they would not have surrendered if we would have just fought them but the bomb finally put scare and led to the Japanese and Hirohito surrendering and ending the horrible war. |
