1. *Journal Entry- Please explain what led to the The Glorious of Revolution of Britain in 1688. Also, share specifically how this impacts democracy in Britain as well as the western world.

The event that led to the Glorious Revolution of Britain was when William and Mary landed with their army late in 1688. James II then fled to France.  The overthrow of the king without fighting became known as the Glorious Revolution. Williams and Mary couldnt just be crowned because of their acts because they had to accept several acts passed by Parliament. Those acts passed by Parliament became known as the English Bill Of Rights.

The Glorious Revolution impacts democracy in Britain as well as the Western world because it was the start of taking away powers from the monarch and making the monarch follow rules. The Bill of Rights made Britain become a limited monarchy which would eventually become a democracy as the powers of the monarch decrease and the peoples power increase.

What are the two root words in the Protestant Reformation? How might these apply to the church in the 1500s?

Pro/protest- supportive of something
Reform- alter or changing something

3. The two root words that are in Protestant Reformation are Pro which means that a person is supportive of something and reform which means to change or alter something that goes is going. These two root words apply to the church in the 1500s for many reasons. The root pro or protest meaning being supportive of something has to do with the church in the 1500s because there were people in the 1500s that went against the church because the church was making money off of indulgences and because the church was corrupt. The root reform has to do with the 1500s because of people like Martin Luther who kept the reformation going with the 95 Theses and had Lutheranism spread throughout Italy and Germany and other countries.

4. The Serfs had a tough life style, serving their lords and having to work very hard. Being a Serf meant that you couldnt do anything without your lords permission and it also meant that you werent educated because you received no schooling. When it came to foods Serfs only received vegetables and bread to eat and combined with hard work both made for a Serfs lifespan spanning from about 30- 35 years.

Nobles are the exact opposite of the Serfs, Nobles lived in castles or a large house, and all Nobles lives were easy because of Serfs doing what ever work they needed to be done. Nobles did not have to work to get to their ranking which was the top of society instead Nobles inherited the power they had. When it came to food Nobles werent limited to vegetables and bread like the Serfs they received gourmet meals on a daily basis.

5. * Journal Entry- How did Italy's location benefit Roman power?

The reason why Italys location benefited Roman power was that Italy was not broken into small isolated valleys. Remember Greece had many valleys in which often divided city-states. Unlike Greece who had rugged mountains Italy had the benefit of having the Apennine Mountains run right down the middle of the Italian peninsula. The last benefit was that fertile plains that Italy presented which supported a population that was rapidly growing.

The similarities between the Glorious Revolution, the Declaration of Independence and Declaration of Rights of Man are that all three are an insult on monarchy and expressed that people have liberty. All three really put the spotlight on the people and gave rights to the people because before all three came in existence the spotlight was shown on the monarch and people were basically none existent with exception of working. All three expressed that government should be for the people and protect the people rather than keeping everything for government and giving the people no voice in what goes on. They all made rulers obey law and govern in partnership with Parliament. Individually the Glorious Revolution took power from King James through the Magna Carta which eventually would turn into the Bill of Rights. The Declaration of Independence distributed power to the people and gave everyone a right which in turn made the government a little less powerful which is what all three did in the end. The Declaration of Rights of Man Basically was just the French version of the Declaration of Independence which in the end took power form the monarchy and distributed the power with the people.

The differences between the Glorious Revolution, the declaration of Independence and Declaration of Rights of man is the time period that each took place in. For example the Declaration of Independence established in 1776 and is still in place in todays society. Another difference is that The Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Rights of Man were both written documents by people while the Glorious revolution was a period in time in which documents were produced because of that time period but it still isnt a written document like the two other documents. Finally the last difference is where each took place. The Declaration of Independence took place and serves for the United States of America while the Declaration of Rights of Man in France and serves France today. The Glorious revolution started in France and spread around Europe and historically the ideas and documents it produced is now serving the people of today.

I believe the Glorious Revolution, Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Rights of Man all contributed to one another but in a chronological order. The Glorious Revolution in which the Magna Carta was produced led to the Bill of Rights which led to the Toleration Act of 1689 and then to the Declaration of Independence in 1776. So without the Glorious Revolution I believe the Declaration of Independence wouldnt have happened and our world would be completely different. Without the Declaration of Independence the French wouldnt have made their form of the Declaration of Independence, the Declaration of Rights of Man and without that the people in the Frances lives would be completely different. These three have the same bottom line that history has and it is a constant if-then saying. If the Glorious Revolution never happened then the Declaration of Independence wouldnt have been mad. History is full of if-thens and thats what I took out of this paper besides the information and connecting the ideas but that history is a domino effect and is full of if-thens.

7. Niccollo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy during the time formally called the renaissance period. Machiavelli produced a book called the Prince that consisted of 26 short chapters of analysis and information which was written to shock and reeducate the people of the renaissance. Machiavelli was interested in atonomizing politics just like Copernicus wanted to atonomize science. Niccollo Machiavelli is considered by many historians as a consumer rather than a producer when it came to his thoughts in the Prince and his every day life because he wouldnt produce new information to the people he would just summarize and offer his opinion. The Prince also provides a guide for present and future tyrants and totalitarians which obviously are important to history.

Alexander the Greats Personal Tragedies

One of Alexander the Greats personal tragedies was his father Phillip II dying when he was young and Alexander having to take over the Disorded Empire that his father left behind. Before Phillip II died Alexander had to watch his mom, Olympias, and Phillip constantly fighting with each other. He never really got to have a good relationship with his father Phillip because he was always on conquest campaigns. So he ended being influenced by Olympias and Aristotle while he was young. I would say it was more of a personal tragedy for Alexander not having a true father figure to look up to while he was young than Phillip dying later in his life.

Inheriting a Disorded Empire Alexander had to see many people die, mostly his enemies, but also a lot of his friends too. During battles he had to see his friends die fighting for his empire and also after becoming sober after drinking rages he would often find some of his friends dead because of his antics while he was drunk. One instance was he killed a life long friend while drunk and then later he realized he was guilty of the killing and he almost took his own life if it wasnt for his bodyguards who restrained him from doing so.
