The history of the Berlin Wall began when the wall was erected on the night of August 13, 1961 and within a month the first generation of the wall was complete which was a wall consisting of concrete elements and square blocks closing the border of much of Western Berlin. The second generation of the Berlin Wall started in June of 1962 in order to aid the Western wall and while this was being built the first generation of the wall was being revised and improved, it is said today that it is hard to differentiate between the first generation wall and the second generation wall. The third generation wall was by far better than the previous two generations in that the wall consisted of concrete slabs between steel girder and concrete posts with a concrete sewage pipe on top of the wall. Even though this generation was a very good generation and by far better than the previous two generations, it was replaced by a fourth generation in that this generation was more resistant to breakthroughs and to environmental pollutions and it used blocks that were easier to build.
The fall of the Berlin Wall took three decades to occur even with Communist countries uprisings. It took until 1989 for which revolting Germans escaped from Germany into Hungary in the amount of about 13,000 Germans and many Germans followed this action after. Later in 1989 thousands of East Berliners went to the border at Bornholmer Strasse where they demanded the border be opened and later that day at 10:30 P:M the border was open which meant the end to the Berlin Wall.
