A. Joseph McCarthy- He was the Senator who charged many Americans with harboring communist symphathies. His unjust charges ruined the lives of thousands of Americans until he was condemned by the Senate.
B. The Great Society- It happened during the 1960s in which the government expanded social programs.  President Kennedy wanted to provide health care to the elderly and after his assignation in 1963 Lyndon Johnson went forth with a new program which was called the Great Society. It funded Medicare to the elderly, job training and low-cost housing for the poor and support for education.
C. Ronald Regain- He called for cutbacks in government spending on social programs. Congress did end some welfare programs, reduced government regulation of the economy and did cut taxes. While this all was happening military spending increased.
D. Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka- This declared that segregated schools were unconstitutional. Some southern schools tried resisting the order but President Eisenhower and his successors used federal power to uphold the law.
E. He emerged as the leader of the civil rights movement, he was inspired by Gandhi�s campaign of civil disobedience in India. He organized boycotts and led peaceful rallies throughout the 1960s to end segregation. Many black and white Americans joined the civil rights movement
F. St. Lawrence Seaway- It opened the Great Lakes to ocean-going ships and linked the interior of both countries to the Atlantic Ocean. It was worked on and completed by the United States and Canada in 1959.
