| Summary Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky, on February 12, 1809. Lincoln had an education that was mostly self taught through reading borrowed books and newspapers. He loved the rhythm and rhyme of poetry. Lincoln when he was 16 found a book called Lessons in Elocution, which would help him write many speeches in the upcoming years. At the age of seventeen Abraham left home to go work as a flatboatman. He made 24 dollars, a lot at his time. In 1834 Lincoln was selected to house. In March 1, 1837 Lincoln passes exams now studies law. Lincoln falls in love with Mary Ann Todd; they met in winter of 1839. In 1846 Lincoln was selected to house again! The main issues were slavery in the south and the war between The United States and Mexico. In 1854 when congress passed the kansas-nebraska act which means that there is no slavery in Kansas or Nebraska. One day Preston brooks almost killed Senator Charles Summer. This was important because slavery was becoming that big of an issue. On Election Day November 6th 1860 Lincoln was elected president. Lincoln received 1,866,000 votes and carried every north state. Lincoln was the first bearded president of the United States. The civil war started on April 14th. North Carolina joined the union. In 1862 Tad and Willie both got fevers tad recovered, Willie did not. Willie died in the White House on February 20th 1862. On September 22, Lincoln read his final wording of the Emancipation proclamation. On April 9th the war ended. On April 14th, 1865 Lincoln and Mary Todd left for fords theater. Arriving late they were escorted into there both. John Parker Lincoln�s bodyguard left for awhile letting John wilks booth to come and shoot the president. At 7:22 am on April 15th Lincoln died. |
