Here is a view of the stock Hurst shifter, sitting at a height of 6 inches.
Another shot of the stock height.
With knob removed, stock sits at 5 inches.
Remove the shifter boot by carefully pushing in the back side of it. There are clips, so be careful not to break them.
After that, you can gently squeeze the sides to release those clips.
Here is a picture of the bottom side of the boot. You can see how the clips fit into the console.
The beast you will be replacing. Ugly, ain't it?
I tried using a 1/4 rachet and 13mm socket, but it didn't fit. Damn!
A revolution! Rachet style box end wrenches I got for a wedding gift!
Oh man! Cooking with gas now.
Here you see the difference between the stock Hurst on the left and the short stick on the right.
The gold part of the stock shifter is threaded, so just thread the bolts on through.
Tighten the bolts up with a 6mm allen wrench, then use the 13mm lock nuts on the right side of the stick.
Snap the boot back into place.
New stick height is around 3 1/2 inches.
With knob threaded on, 4 1/2 inches.
We have lost 1 1/2 inches in height. To tell you the truth, I was not sure I'd like the shortness of it, but it really is great. The 2-3 shift is awesome! You should never miss 2-3 again! For 25 bucks, this is a real investment in your T56.
