K-2 Classroom Policies
Please let me know if you have questions concerning these policies.  I welcome and encourage your comments about our classroom.
Attendance- Good attendance is very important in Kindergarten.  New skills are learned daily and students can get behind very quickly if they have poor attendance.
Students should report to school between 8:10 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.  Children will not be under close supervision before 8:10 a.m.  Students will report to the playground during these times.  Please remember that parents must check into the office before entering the school playground or any classroom.
Backpacks-  Please do not send a backpack to school with your child.  They are more trouble than they are useful in the classroom.
Dress Code- Please send your child in clothes suitable for playing on the playground daily, and for participating in a variety of stimulating and educational activities.  Kindergarten is fun, but it can also be messy.  Also don't forget to follow the Fairbanks Elementary School Dress Code that can be found in your Student/Parent Handbook.
Folders- Your child will bring home a folder DAILY.  It will contain schoolwork, homework, and other information when necessary.  Please review your child's folder daily.  And remember, the folder and homework must be turned in the following day.
Illness- If your child is going to be absent, please notify the office (865-3501) by 8:30 a.m.  Any work your child may be missed will be sent home when he/she returns.
Library Books- We will visit the library every 2 weeks.  Students who do not return their book may not check out a new one.  It a book is lost, the librarian will issue a bill for the amount of the book.
Lunch Money- I encourage all parents to purchase a lunch card for their child at the cafeteria.  This will make is easier for the students and me because we won't have to keep track of $1.25 (the cost of lunch) each day.  You may purchase this card anytime before 9:00 a.m.
Meetings-  Throughout the year I will be communicating to you through letters, telephone calls, newsletters, and meetings.  However, if you should have a question or just want to touch base to find out how your child is doing, please do not hesitate to call the school office to schedule a meeting.
Homework- Homework will be sent home DAILY.  It will be found in your child's folder.  The purpose of this assignment is to provide reinforcement on skill taught in class.  It is also to help promote responsibility.  Take about 10 - 15 to help your child with the assignment, sign it, and return it to school the following day in your child's folder.
Participation-  Throughout the school year, there will be a variety of different classroom activities, field trips, and celebrations.  I encourage you to volunteer your help for these events or support them by sending the needed supplies.  By doing so, you will show your child that you support school activities and send a valuable message to your child stating that your value his/her education.
Parties-  Birthdays will be celebrated during the last 15 minutes of class.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated in may.  We will also have a Fall Party (last names A-L will bring treats) and a Valentine's Day Party (last names M-Z will bring treats).
Top Banana-  This is the special student for the week.  This is a great way for all of us to learn about each other.  When your child is "Top Banana", he/she will bring home a banana pack.  In the pack, you will find a form to fill out.  Please do this and send it back to school with three of your child's favorite items (toy, book, stuffed animal, movie, etc).  These items will be displayed for a week.
Unique-  Each child is unique in personality and academic development.  Please try not to compare your child to other students in the class.  Instead, emphasize the important these he/she does that makes them who they are.
Technology-  Computers will be used to reinforce various skills we are learning in the classroom.  We will attend Computer Lab once a week.  In addition, your child will learn how to take A.R. tests (these are reading quizzes over books read) on the computer.
