FEDERAL AGENTS HARASSING AND PHYSICALLY HARMING STUDENTS AT UC IRVINE

My name is Michael Overlin.  In February of 2002 I was forced to leave the UC Irvine Ph.D. program in mathematics as a result of harassment and physical harm I suffered at the hands of federal agents.  This harassment took a variety of forms, but the main mode of harassment was the use of an electromagnetic weapon.  When the weapon's beam is directed at the head, the victim may hear a high-pitched ringing in the ears.  During and afterwards there may be great diffiiculty concentrating on complex tasks.  Later there may be severe headaches.

When directed at other parts of the body, there may be numbness or pain.  It was once used on my left arm, while I was riding a motorcycle, and it interfered with my motor control to the point I was worried about maintaining control of the bike.  When directed at the chest it may make you feel like you are going to have a heart attack.  It can prevent the victim from sleeping.

I believe it is an electromagnetic weapon because conductive shielding, such as aluminum foil, seems to block it.  Also it is beamed, and can effect a single person even when others are fairly close.  Finally, the US military has been researching electromagnetic weapons since at least the early 70's and it seems likely that such a weapon would be capable of causing the symptoms that I've described.  See for example chapter 15 of Dr. Robert Becker's The Body Electric which is reproduced at http://www.geocities.com/moverlin2001/chap15bodyelectric.html (and gives a more complete list of possible symptoms, most of which I've highlighted for you). I'm not sure if this electromagnetic weapon, in the way it's been used on me, causes permanent damage.  The effects can certainly last a week or more.  I'm not sure if I'm impaired in comparison to my state before this happened, but I think that I have suffered some permanent damage.  There may be a risk of the victim having a stroke.  It may be capable of causing the victim to have a heart attack, when directed towards the heart.  This device was used on me during large portions of a road trip, by motorcycle, from Irvine California to a physics conference I was attending in Los Alamos, New Mexico.  I could have easily had an accident and killed myself as well as some other innocent bystanders.

As I've said, when the beam of this weapon is directed at the victim's head it can cause extreme difficulty in concentrating on complex tasks.  Just before I left UC Irvine in February 2002, I was feeling the effects of this weapon in the places I would study on-campus and near the campus in Irvine, as well as in my on-campus apartment.  I had no choice but to leave at that point, since you can't be a student if you're unable to study.  I should mention here that until this quarter I had done well in the graduate program; my GPA in the program was 3.96.  I had won an award for the highest score on the physics Ph.D. qualifying examination, as shown at www.physics.uci.edu/grads/gradawards.html.

The actions against me were not limited to the use of this electromagnetic weapon.  I was poisoned at my local supermarket.  A sedative was slipped into a fruit cup I bought by someone I later realized had been involved in an earlier episode of harassment.  After eating the fruit cup I started to become very sleepy and have heart palpitations.  Before realizing what had happened I rode my motorcycle to my office at the university -- again, I might easily have killed both others and myself while driving under the influence of the drug.  The effects wore off after about 3-4 hours.

On one occasion they replaced a local policeman that I called for help with one of their agents.  This happened at the SF International Airport.  A policeman that I requested, when he turned up, was someone I recognized as a 28-year-old undergraduate from UC Irvine.  I knew this person well; there is no possibility I misidentified him.

I believe the group which has instigated these actions against me are federal agents of some kind.  Strangely enough, two of those involved early on identified themselves to me as CIA officers.  This was done in such a way that I took it as a joke at the time.  Their names were Paul Purdle and Jeremy Rogers.  (It was Paul Purdle who would later turn up as the police officer at the SF airport).  Why they identified themselves I don't know.  In addition, I believe they've replaced security guards at the FBI station in San Diego, and have replaced national guardsmen.  I would think only federal agents would have the power to do this.

This is not all of the things these peopple have done to me.  I've limited myself here to things that I am completely certain were deliberate acts of harassment against me, and have excluded things that I only strongly suspect.  Later I may add a page giving the more complete story.

I am not the only victim.  It seems the federal government and military have turned major university campuses into de-facto military bases, and they are using these harassment methods to get rid of students as they see fit.  I am fairly certain that three other (former) graudate students in the math department at UCI have been harassed by these people, as well as one (former) graudate student of the political sicence department.  Note howerver that not all victims realize what is being done to them.

The names of these victims are Paul Bailey, Thien Nguyen, Marco Prado, and Jeremy Wittman.

I happen to know some of the names of these federal agents at UC Irvine.  They are Paul Purdle, Jeremy Rogers, and Thomas Winckler.  Also Ed Ames, Blake Eastman, Yang Kang, and Nissam (Tai) Kaufmann were graduate students who seemed to be very active participants in the harassment, and are may be agents themselves.

I have tried to report this to the FBI twice, but this group has interfered.  I haven't been able to go inside an FBI station where I would be reasonably sure that the duty agent I speak to is actually an FBI  agent.  I've sent email to the president, vice president, attorney general, and both California state senators.  I've sent letters by US mail to Senator Dianne Feinstein and reporter Seth Rosenfeld of the SF Chronicle.  I've told my story in person to one faculty member of the physics department, and three faculty members of the math department.  I've spoken in person to at least 5 math graduate students, all of whom I'm sure knew about what was happening to me.  I haven't reported this to my local police because it's hard to imagine local police taking this kind of claim seriously enough to investigate.  Although the existence of the kind of electromagnetic weapons that have been used on me is well-known among scientists, the general public isn't aware of their existence.

This group is continuing to harass me, daily, even now that I have left the university.  The reason may be that I am trying to report their activity.
